QIBA Conformance Certification Service

The RSNA Quantitative Imaging Biomarkers Alliance® (QIBA®) seeks to improve the value and practicality of quantitative imaging biomarkers by reducing variability across devices, sites, patients, and time. Toward this goal, QIBA is working with Accumetra to provide automated and efficient methods for confirming that institutions are following QIBA specifications for achieving a high level of quantitative imaging performance, which are distributed as QIBA Profile specification documents. Achieving conformance with a QIBA Profile demonstrates that an institution is performing specific clinical imaging tasks with high levels of measurement performance.

QIBA’s First Conformance Certification Service

A new cloud-based QIBA Conformance Certification service is now available that allows clinical sites, CT scanner vendors, and software analysis vendors to demonstrate conformance with the QIBA CT Small Lung Nodule Profile. Accurate volume measurements of small solid lung nodules requires that clinical sites consistently achieve high performance from CT scanners and lung nodule analysis software. The QIBA Conformance Certification service verifies clinical site conformance with the QIBA Small Lung Nodule Profile technical requirements and specifications by using easy to scan and analyze phantoms and online conformance verification software.

Clinical Site

Clinical sites can sign up and use a new clinical task-specific phantom, automated analysis tools, and online reference information to quantitatively verify the image quality of CT scanners and acquisition protocols as well as the measurement performance of small lung nodule analysis software. Participating institutions not only verify conformance with the QIBA Small Lung Nodule Profile but also receive best-practice protocol results observed with the same or similar CT acquisition equipment. Achievement of Profile conformance results in the listing of the institution as a QIBA conformant site and the ability to use an institution-specific QIBA Conformance Certification Mark.

CT Scanner Vendor

CT scanner vendors can demonstrate conformance with a QIBA Profile for a specific FDA approved scanner model using new phantoms and automated phantom analysis tools. A thorough and independent analysis of CT scanner performance is evaluated during conformance testing resulting in acquisition protocol information that can help clinical sites achieve improved image acquisition with a CT scanner. All scanner models that achieve conformance with the QIBA Small Lung Nodule Profile, are listed as a QIBA conformant CT scanner model and the vendor receives a scanner model-specific QIBA Conformance Certification Mark for marketing use.

CT Analysis Vendor

CT lung nodule analysis software vendors can establish conformance with a QIBA Profile for a specific FDA approved nodule analysis software and version number using new phantoms and automated phantom analysis tools. A thorough and independent analysis of nodule analysis software performance that achieves conformance with the QIBA Small Lung Nodule Profile is listed as QIBA conformant and the software vendor receives a software name and version number-specific QIBA Conformance Certification Mark for marketing use.
